  • Third consecutive monthly sales record for Ford at 6 889 vehicles, 21.8% up on March 2014

PRETORIA, South Africa, 1 April 2015 – Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) achieved an all-time sales record through the dealer channel and its third consecutive best-ever monthly sales, reaching a total of 6 889 units for March 2015. Volumes increased by 21.8% compared to March last year, and a 8.4% climb from February 2015.

*According to NAAMSA, March 2015 aggregate new vehicle sales at 55 449 units were virtually unchanged from the 55 440 vehicles sold in March last year.

Ford had three strong contenders in March’s overall Top 10 sales in the passenger car segment with EcoSport in fourth place, Figo fifth and Fiesta 10th.The locally-built Ford Ranger remains Ford’s star performer, recording its highest-ever sales on 3 107 and second best-selling LCV in March.

“The continued strong demand for Ford products matches the significant strides we have made in making our entire model range more competitive and compelling. Customers really love the design of the products we’ve recently launched, along with the technology and overall value for money,” says Mark Kaufman, Vice President, Marketing, Sales and Service, FMCSA.

“This is strengthened by the aggressive roll-out of exciting new all-new models, such as the Fusion and Tourneo Connect which recorded segment-leading shares in their first full sales month in March. We’re introducing 10 new products in South Africa this year. The recently launched Fusion and Transit Connect were quickly accepted by consumers achieving segment leadership in their respective segments.”

Once again the EcoSport led the compact SUV segment, having surpassed 1 000 sales for the third month in a row on a final tally of 1 036. The Figo remains extremely popular in the budget segment, having attracted 929 new buyers.

During March Ford launched the new Focus in South Africa, featuring an all-new EcoBoost engine line-up, complemented by sophisticated styling and Ford’s latest new technologies.

By mid-year the new Focus ST will join the local line-up, followed towards the end of the year by a brace of exhilarating new models including the all-new Everest, updated Ranger and the highly anticipated Mustang.
