  • Ford’s highest-ever market share at 16.3%, 24.5% growth for April and year-to-date sales up by 12.1%
  • Ford Ranger snatches top spot for industry and LCV sales for the second time with 3 095 units sold
  • 67% year-on-year sales increase for expanded Fiesta range, highest since September 2014

PRETORIA, South Africa, 5 May 2015 – Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (FMCSA) has continued its record-breaking sales performance, achieving its best-ever market share, highest-ever sales for April and segment-topping volumes for key models.

With total sales of 6 483 units for April 2015, FMCSA increased its volumes by 24.5% compared to the same month last year. As a result, Ford’s overall market share has climbed to a new high of 16.3%, while year-to-date sales have surged by 12.1% relative to the same period in 2014.

*The National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA), April 2015 aggregate new vehicle sales at 44 503 units were slightly down from the 46 016 vehicles sold in April last year. Overall, out of the total reported Industry sales of 44 503 vehicles, an estimated 38 780 units or 87.2% represented dealer sales, 6.3% constituted sales to government, 4.2% to industry corporate fleets and 2.3% represented sales to the vehicle rental industry. The April, 2015 new car market at 30 184 units reflected a decline of 594 units or a fall of 1.9% compared to the 30 778 new cars sold in April last year.

The locally assembled Ranger was the top-seller in the light commercial vehicle segment with 3 095 sales – this is the second time it took the top spot for the LCV sales and total industry sales. Sales of the Ford Ranger increased by 71.6% year-on-year and 54% year-to-date as the strong demand continues.

The Ford Fiesta benefitted from increased availability of the award winning EcoBoost engine on more series along with the Powershift Automatic Transmission. The market responded positively with a 67% year-on-year increase for Ford’s B-segment hatchback and 922 sales – the highest figure since September 2014.

Once again the Ford EcoSport dominated the compact SUV segment, retaining first place for the thirteenth month in a row with 837 units sold in April.

Ford’s aggressive launch programme is set to continue for the rest of the year, and includes several important new models such as the B-Max, Focus ST, all-new Everest, new Ranger and the iconic Mustang.
